BEEM mission :

Biodiversity and Environnemental Expertise Mission

Our team was founded on the common will to study economical, social and environmental impacts or study the feasibility of a natural protected area, in a sustainable way.We wish to work on the challenges and constraints linked to such a protected area, on the territorial, botanical, animal and humane levels.

In partnership with IRD-Peru (Research Institute for Development) and SERNANP (National Service of Protected Natural Areas) of Peru, the 2014 team of IMExpertise participate in the establishment of a management plan for the National Reserve System Islands, islets and tips Guaneras ( RNSIIPG ). This reserve was established in 2009 and it is composed of 22 islands spread along the Peruvian coast.

Among them there are the Ballestas Islands considered as the small Galapagos. The large number of fish present in the cold waters of the Humboldt current makes these islands a real bird sanctuary with many Humboldt penguins, pelicans or cormorants. In addition, we observe the presence of sea lions mane colonies who come to these islands to breed and a dozen species of dolphins.

With the recent creation of the reserve and the increase of tourism on these islands, the current challenge  to protect this ecosystem and to manage the various activities that take place in this archipelago.

It is in these Ballestas Islands and in the context of tourism management that runs the BEEM project. The mission of the association IMExpertise is to assess the impact of tourism activities on animal populations and to establish a schedule of these activities in terms of frequency and intensity in order to restore balance and harmony in the region .
